Interview Kodazo – Argentina

Fernando Veiss

Argentine quartet Kodazo hail from Buenos Aires, they have a big following in their homeland but are relatively unknown in the UK. I spoke to vocalist and chief songwriter Fernando Veiss about the group and their touring plans.

Gerry:
Hi Fernando, can you give the readers a brief history of Kodazo?

Fernando:
Kodazo was created in the city of Castelar, Buenos Aires in mid-2011.  We are a punk four piece and our passion is to play live and share our energetic punk with the world.

Gerry:
I understand you are currently working on your debut album.  How would you describe the new album to someone who has not listened to you before?

Fernando
We are a band that plays direct and raw music, with lyrics full of hatred against everything that bothers us.  We speak of the injustices that we suffer every day as human beings.

Gerry:
I really love the Kodazo logo, who came up with the idea?

Fernando:
The idea comes from our idea of what the band itself is, we sound like a blow to your face.

Gerry:
Lyrically you focus on society and politics, is this world politics or specific to Argentina?

Fernando:
I can only speak of what happens in Argentina, the lyrics speak directly of the situations in our country.  Around the world the general feeling is the same, we are all slaves to our own consumerism and greed.

Gerry:
Can you explain the concepts behind the band posters, is this to shock people or is it to highlight anything in particular?

Fernando:
They are political criticism, each one gets the point across. They are organic and nothing is planned.

Gerry:
Has the economic downturn influenced Kodazo?  If so, then how?

Fernando:
The economic crisis is a consequence of the disaster that is this humanity, so we sing what we feel about that.

Gerry:
Where have you toured and where are you planning on touring?

Fernando:
Currently, we are planning a tour of Uruguay and the Argentine provinces.

Gerry:
Hit shuffle on your iPod and name the first 3 songs that come up, no cheating!

Fernando:
Down on the farm (UK Subs), Odio todo (Kodazo) and Atmosfera (Joy Division)

Gerry:
What bands can you recommend to our readers?

Fernando:
Las Manos de Filippi , Plan Quinquenal, Eskorbuto, La polla records, M.C.D, Gatillazo, Lendakaris Muertos, Dead Kennedys and Johnny Thunders
