Clocking in at just under an hour, the eighth studio offering from the Yorkshire doom titans demands your attention from the off. The undiluted, guttural tones of opening track ‘The Wreckage of My Flesh’ kicks off proceedings.
The melancholic torture of Aaron Stainthorpe on ‘My Wine in Silence’ leaves a lasting impression of irritable despair on the listener.
Stainthorpe spits furiously over interweaving guitar work on ‘The Prize of Beauty’. Axe men Craighan and Glencross, conjure visions of a furious sea creature tousling with its prey. A strong debut from keyboardist, Sarah Stanton adds majestic and haunting melodies throughout.
Closing track ‘A Doomed Lover’ creeps forth superbly enticing you in before gathering pace and fading out on an upsurge of startlingly divine guitar play.
